Everybody needs to get clean; do you agree? While this is true, we do not all do it in the same way. When it comes to the choice between having a quick shower or a hot bath, there are different and strong opinions on both sides. But which actually is better?

The real answer is very simple: it is all up to your preference. The two methods, however, do have their own strengths and weaknesses, so really, it depends on your priorities. Let us now compare the two to see how they are:

Hygienically-Speaking

While it does feel great to take a long soak in a steamy bath, it might not always feel so great afterward. This is because long, hot baths are actually known for drying out the skin, which can lead to flaking and itching. People who have sensitive skin conditions like psoriasis or eczema can have worse reactions. Shorter showers with cooler water can help to avoid such a problem.

Baths, however, can still provide the opportunity to soak in something soothing. Oatmeal blends, bath bombs, Epsom salts, and other additives can turn your ordinary bath into a refreshing experience, and some bath products are even designed to relieve certain skin conditions. Should you choose to try these bath products, then make sure you safeguard against dry skin by making the water just hot enough and to moisturize after you dry off.

Convenience

Taking showers are quick and to the point. You might just need to spend a few seconds waiting for the water to warm up, but you will spend the entire time just getting clean and moving on with your day. A bath, on the other hand, is intended to be a more leisure experience, but even if you do have the time to take things slow, taking a bath the proper way might still pose some challenges. When you are done, it is important to rinse off your body with clean water before you completely dry off so that you are not left with an itchy film of soap.

Water Consumption

Unless you are fond of taking extra long showers, the shower is definitely the more eco-friendly choice. There are showers that come with water-conserving showerheads and they can use as little as two gallons per minute. In terms of having luxurious baths, there is no way around the hefty water consumption. However, if you want to push your water conservation to the limit, we here at Hayes Plumbing can discuss with you some of your options.

Relaxation

Who does not want to take a load off every once in a while, right? With a bath, you can definitely relax your entire body and focus on soothing things such as relaxing music or aromatherapy. In addition to that, a soak in warm water can also soothe your sore muscles and it can also aid in recovery from physical stress. So, if you are getting clean after working out, you can consider going for a bath to give your body a break.
