Hayes Plumbing & Bathroom Renovations takes on bathroom renovations in Whitby as a full-service contractor, working from our Oshawa shop at 448 Ritson Rd. South, roughly 10 to 20 minutes from most of the town. Some projects are a fixture and finish update; others are a full gut renovation that changes the layout and adds a custom shower, tile, a vanity and accessibility features. Either way, we carry the job from start to finish. Hayes was founded in Oshawa in 1961, was named a Gold winner for Bathroom Specialists in CommunityVotes Oshawa 2026, and offers financing through Financeit.

What a Hayes bathroom renovation or remodel in Whitby can include
With one company handling the whole bathroom, you deal with one estimate, one schedule and one point of contact, rather than booking a plumber around a separate contractor and tiler. The work includes:
- Bathroom design and layout changes, including custom washrooms and basement bathrooms built from the rough-in up.
- Custom and walk-in showers, tub-to-shower conversions, and alcove, standalone, drop-in or jetted tub replacements.
- Walk-in tubs and accessibility features such as grab bars and shower seating.
- Heated floors and custom tiling, plus vanities and cabinetry with countertops in quartz, laminate or cultured marble.
- Toilets in regular and comfort height, plus faucets, shower heads and shower trim.
- Exhaust fans, electrical upgrades, custom glass, towel bars and full bathroom finishing.
- Fixtures by Moen, Kohler, American Standard, Riobel and Mirolin, or ones you supply yourself.
How a Whitby bathroom project runs
- Start by telling us the goal: what isn't working, who uses the room and which changes matter most to you. Photos and measurements help.
- At a free in-home consultation we walk through the bathroom, looking at the existing fixtures, where the plumbing is located, the access and any damage we can see.
- A written estimate follows. It lists the work, the selections still to be made and any conditions that need a closer look once the walls are open.
- Once fixtures and finishes are confirmed, we set the schedule, then build and finish the renovation.
Bathroom renovation cost in Whitby
Our 2026 Durham Region bathroom renovation cost guide puts cosmetic updates between $5,000 and $20,000, partial renovations between $10,000 and $35,000 and full gut renovations between $18,000 and $55,000, with room size, scope and finishes deciding where a project lands. For a standard family bathroom of 50 to 100 square feet, the guide narrows that down: $8,000 to $15,000 for a cosmetic update, $15,000 to $25,000 for a partial renovation and $25,000 to $40,000 for a full gut renovation.
Treat these as planning ranges rather than quotes. Moving a toilet, tub, shower or vanity brings extra plumbing and restoration work, and what demolition reveals, whether water damage, a subfloor that isn't suitable or aging supply and drain lines, can change the scope. There's no charge for the in-home estimate.
Permits for bathroom renovations in Whitby
In Whitby, the Town of Whitby's Building Services Division issues building permits; the Region of Durham does not. The Town's list of typical projects that need a building permit includes plumbing, drains and heating systems, finished basements, adding or removing walls and structural alterations, so adding a basement bathroom or moving drains for a new layout falls within work the Town lists. The Town does not publish a list of bathroom work that is exempt, so for a like-for-like fixture swap, ask Building Services (building@whitby.ca) before work starts.
Downtown Whitby includes the Werden's Plan Neighbourhood Conservation District, and Downtown Brooklin has the Brooklin Heritage Conservation District. The Town's building permit page lists Town of Whitby Heritage among the offices a project may need to consult, so if your house sits in either district, ask before changing a window or adding an exterior vent.
Whitby neighbourhoods we serve
We renovate bathrooms across Whitby, including Downtown Whitby and its Perry's Plan and Werden's Plan neighbourhoods, Port Whitby by the harbour, the Pringle Creek area and north Whitby. Brooklin is about 20 to 25 minutes from our Oshawa shop, and most of Whitby is 10 to 20 minutes away. Older houses in the downtown neighbourhoods may still have original supply or drain lines behind the walls, so the estimate notes anything that needs checking once demolition starts.
