Plumbing Repair in Bowmanville, Ontario

Licensed plumbers fix faucets, toilets, outdoor taps, shut-off valves and appliance connections in Bowmanville, which is usually 15 to 25 minutes by road from our Oshawa shop.

Hayes Plumbing team in front of company vehicles

Hayes Plumbing provides plumbing repair in Bowmanville for homes and businesses, from downtown Bowmanville on King Street to Brookhill and Port Darlington. Brian Hayes founded the company in Oshawa in 1961, and our licensed plumbers still work out of 448 Ritson Rd. South, normally 15 to 25 minutes from Bowmanville by car. We fix dripping taps and leaking faucets, toilets that run or rock, outdoor taps damaged by frost, pressure reducing valves, stuck shut-offs and the water lines to fridges, dishwashers and washing machines. There is no charge for a quote, and the written price comes before anything is taken apart.

What to Expect When You Book

  1. Phone (905) 576-3043 or book online. Our office is open weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM. Outside those hours a live operator still picks up if water is leaking.
  2. A licensed plumber comes out in a fully stocked service vehicle, inspects the problem and works out what is causing it.
  3. You get a written price before work starts. Where there is a real choice, such as rebuilding an old faucet or replacing it, we price both.
  4. The plumber completes the repair, tests it and cleans up before leaving.

Outdoor Taps and Freezing Weather

An outdoor tap that froze over the winter often shows it in spring, when the hose goes back on. Water leaking from the spout usually means a worn washer or valve seat inside, while water escaping around the handle points to the packing or the stem, and both can often be repaired once the cause is confirmed. If the pipe behind the tap split in the cold, the leak may be inside the wall, so look at the basement wall or ceiling behind the tap the first time you use it each year.

To prevent it, disconnect the hose before the first hard frost, close the indoor valve that feeds the tap if your home has one, and open the outside tap so it drains. A frost-free tap, installed with a slight downward slope, keeps its shut-off inside the heated part of the house and is a common replacement for a tap that has frozen more than once.

Permits From the Municipality of Clarington

Bowmanville is one of the communities in the Municipality of Clarington, and plumbing permits come from the Municipality, not the Region of Durham. Clarington says a permit is not normally required to replace plumbing fixtures, but is normally required to alter or add any plumbing. A straight repair to a faucet or toilet usually falls on the first side of that line; moving a sink or adding a basement washroom falls on the second. Clarington's building permit staff work from 40 Temperance Street in Bowmanville; phone 905-623-3379, extension 2660, or email BuildingPermits@clarington.net.

Rural Homes on Private Wells

In town, Bowmanville is supplied with Region of Durham water drawn from Lake Ontario (one of the Region's lake plants is in Bowmanville), and the Region lists the hardness of that supply at 125 mg/L as calcium carbonate. The hamlets north of town, such as Tyrone and Enniskillen, generally have their own drilled wells and septic systems. The Region also notes that groundwater tends to be harder than surface water.

Well water brings its own fixture problems. The Region's private well manual explains that iron in groundwater leaves reddish-brown stains on fixtures, sulphur bacteria cause a rotten egg smell, and hard water builds scale on fixtures and pipes. A new faucet will not cure any of those, because the cause is in the water: we repair the plumbing, and our water filtration page covers treatment. The Region also tests private well water for bacteria free of charge, and sample bottles are available at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex, 2440 Durham Regional Hwy 2, Bowmanville.

Repair Prices

Because every repair depends on the part and the access, we quote after a quick diagnosis rather than over the phone. In our 2026 Oshawa plumbing cost guide, hooking up an appliance, whether a dishwasher, a laundry washer or a refrigerator, is listed at $150 to $300, and the guide's range for drain cleaning is $150 to $400, which is worth knowing when a slow sink turns out to be a drain problem. Fixtures we supply are priced on their own.

Plumbing Repair in Bowmanville: FAQs

Common questions from Bowmanville homeowners.

Usually not. The Municipality of Clarington says permits are not normally required for replacing plumbing fixtures. Altering or adding plumbing normally does need one, so check with Clarington's building permit staff before moving or adding fixtures.

Usually because water left in the tap, or in the pipe behind it, froze over the winter. Draining the tap before the first hard frost prevents most of that damage. If the same tap keeps failing, a frost-free model is often the lasting fix.

On a private well, reddish-brown staining usually comes from iron, which the Region of Durham says occurs naturally in groundwater. Scrubbing or replacing the fixture will not stop it, because the water itself needs treatment. If your home is on Region water in town and new staining appears, mention it when you book so the plumber can check the supply piping.

Yes. Courtice is normally 10 to 15 minutes away and Newcastle 25 to 35, both from the same Oshawa shop, and we work across the rest of Clarington too. We do not promise arrival times, because traffic and other calls affect them.
