Hayes Plumbing handles everyday plumbing repairs across Whitby, from Williamsburg and Rolling Acres to Lynde Creek and Brooklin. Our shop is at 448 Ritson Rd. South in Oshawa, and we fix faucets, toilets, shut-off valves, outdoor taps, pressure reducing valves and water hammer for homeowners, landlords and businesses. Our seven service vehicles are fully stocked.
Repairs We Handle in Whitby
Our plumbing repair work in Whitby homes covers the parts of the system you use every day:
- Faucets: a drip from the spout or around the handle usually comes from a worn cartridge, O-ring or seal, and when the faucet body and finish are still sound, replacing those parts is often all it needs.
- Toilets: a toilet that runs between flushes, flushes weakly or leaks at the base usually needs a new flapper, fill valve or wax ring, while a cracked tank or bowl means replacement.
- Shut-off valves: valves under sinks and behind toilets can seize after years without use and often fail when they are finally turned, so we replace any that will not close properly, including the main shut-off.
- Water hammer and pressure valves: we track down the cause of pipes that bang when a tap or appliance shuts off, and we replace pressure reducing valves that have failed.
- Outdoor taps and appliance lines: we repair or replace outdoor taps, including frost-free models, and connect fridge water lines, dishwashers and washing machines.
Know Where Your Main Shut-Off Is
The most useful thing to know before any plumbing problem is where your main shut-off valve is. It is normally next to the water meter, where the water service comes into the house. The Region of Durham's guidance refers to the shut-off valves on both sides of the meter, and those valves are the homeowner's responsibility, so it pays to check now and then that they still turn.
If the main valve will not close, the Region can shut the water off at the service box outside your home. Book that through the Region's Works Department depot at least 48 hours ahead; emergency shut-offs outside normal working hours can also be arranged, and the Region charges a fee for both that is added to your water bill.
For a burst pipe or a leak you cannot stop, call (905) 576-3043. A live operator answers 24 hours a day and can tell you what to shut off while a plumber is dispatched from our Oshawa shop.
When a Repair Turns Into a Plumbing Change
Some calls start as a repair and end up as a change to the system: moving a sink, adding a laundry tub or relocating plumbing for a basement washroom. The Town of Whitby lists plumbing, drains and heating systems among the projects that typically need a building permit, and those permits come from the Town's Building Services Division, not the Region. If your job goes beyond a straight repair, check with the Town (building@whitby.ca) before the work starts.
Plumbing Repair Cost in Whitby
Most repairs are quoted after a quick diagnosis, because the price depends on the part, the access and the time involved. For planning, our 2026 Oshawa plumbing cost guide lists appliance hookups, such as a dishwasher, washing machine or fridge water line, at $150 to $300. Calls outside regular business hours may carry additional charges. Quotes are free, and you see the price in writing before we start.
