Bathroom Faucet Replacement in Bowmanville, Ontario

New bath sink faucets fitted to the holes you already have, with the vanity sink, drain and shut-off valves renewed when they need it, in Bowmanville homes about 15 to 25 minutes from our Oshawa shop.

Undermount sink with a black widespread faucet

Hayes Plumbing handles bathroom faucet replacement in Bowmanville, from downtown along King Street to Brookhill and Port Darlington. A licensed plumber comes from 448 Ritson Rd. South in Oshawa, normally a 15 to 25 minute drive, takes out the old faucet, checks the shut-offs, the supply lines and the drain below the basin, and installs the new faucet so it seals to the sink and runs without leaks. We supply faucets and fixtures from Moen, Kohler, American Standard, Riobel and Mirolin, or install a faucet you have chosen yourself, and the job is priced in writing up front.

Choosing Bath Sink Faucets That Fit

A new faucet has to line up with the holes in your sink or vanity top, so count them before you shop. Bathroom faucets come in three main layouts:

  • Single-hole faucets have the handle built into the faucet body and need just one hole.
  • Centreset faucets, also sold as 4 inch spread or mini-spread faucets, use three closely spaced holes and keep everything compact.
  • Widespread faucets, often sold as 8 inch spread faucets, have a separate spout and two handles on three holes set further apart. As a quick test, measure between the two handles: six inches or more calls for a widespread faucet, and less than six for a centreset model.

More Than One Hole to Cover

An old faucet's base plate can hide holes you cannot see from above, so look underneath with a flashlight, or let us measure when we quote. Changing from two handles to one is possible when the new faucet's base is wide enough to cover the unused holes: many cover holes 4 inches or less apart, and some single-handle faucets come with 8 inch plates for wider spacing.

How We Replace a Bathroom Faucet

  1. Water to the basin is shut off at its two valves (at the main if they are stuck), and the faucet is opened to drain the lines.
  2. The supply connections and mounting nuts come off and the old faucet is lifted out. Old putty, caulk or mineral buildup can hold a faucet to the sink, so it is cut free carefully to protect the vanity top.
  3. With the faucet out, the valves and lines underneath get a close look. Valves that are seized, crusted or dripping are replaced, and so are tired supply lines.
  4. The new faucet is mounted and sealed to the sink, connected to the water, and its drain assembly fitted or adjusted so the stopper opens and closes properly.
  5. We run the water hot and cold, check each joint and the trap under the sink for leaks, and leave the vanity clean.

Bathroom Sink Fixtures Beyond the Faucet

Sometimes the faucet is not the only thing that needs to change. We also replace cracked or stained bathroom sinks, fit a new sink and faucet together when the vanity top changes, renew leaking drains and traps, and swap old shut-off valves for new ones. Elsewhere in the house we replace shower valves and trim, tub spouts, tubs and laundry tubs, and outside we install frost-free hose bibs. If the plan grows into moving the vanity or rebuilding the room, it becomes a job for our bathroom renovation service.

Permits, Water and Wells in Bowmanville

Swapping a faucet or sink in its current spot counts as replacing a fixture, and Clarington's Building Division, which sits at 40 Temperance Street in Bowmanville, does not normally require a permit for the replacement of plumbing fixtures. Moving the sink or adding a new one changes the plumbing and normally needs a permit, so call the Building Division at 905-623-3379 ext. 2660 before planning that kind of work.

In town, Bowmanville is on the Region of Durham's Lake Ontario water system, which has a supply plant in Bowmanville, and the Region lists the hardness of that system at 125 mg/L as calcium carbonate. The Region's private wells manual notes that hard water can leave scale on plumbing fixtures, and scale and grit tend to collect in the small screen of a faucet aerator, which is the first place to look when a bathroom faucet's flow weakens. On a private well in the hamlets north of town, reddish-brown marks on a new faucet are typically caused by iron, which the same manual says occurs naturally in groundwater. Water treatment, not another faucet, is the fix for that.

Bathroom Faucet Replacement Cost

Our 2026 Oshawa plumbing cost guide has no figure for faucets or sinks, so each Bowmanville job is priced on its own. The total depends on the faucet you choose, whether the shut-off valves and supply lines need replacing, and how easy the connections are to reach under the vanity. A faucet we supply appears as a separate item on the written quote, the quote is free, and we agree the price before work begins.

Fixture Installation in Bowmanville: FAQs

Common questions from Bowmanville homeowners.

Often, yes. The new faucet needs a base or deck plate wide enough to cover the two unused holes. Many cover holes up to 4 inches apart, and some single-handle faucets come with 8 inch plates for wider spacing. We can measure your sink before you buy.

Not normally. Clarington treats a faucet or sink replaced in the same spot as a fixture replacement, which does not normally need a permit. Relocating the sink or adding plumbing is different and normally requires one.

If they are seized, crusted with mineral deposits or dripping at the stem, yes. Changing them during the faucet job saves a separate visit later, since the water is shut off anyway, and a working shut-off lets you isolate the sink the next time it needs attention.

Our lines are Moen, Kohler, American Standard, Riobel and Mirolin. Faucets from other makers are fine too when you buy your own; just check the hole layout before ordering, or let us know the model so we can confirm the fit.
