Every plumbing job is different, so no honest plumber can give you one number that fits every home. What we can do is publish the ranges we actually see across Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering and Clarington. The figures below come from the Hayes Plumbing 2026 Oshawa plumbing cost guide and from the cost articles on this blog. Treat them as planning ranges, then book a free in-home estimate for a written price.
What decides the price of a plumbing job
Four things move the number more than anything else. The type of job comes first: clearing a bathroom sink takes a fraction of the time of replacing a sewer lateral. Access is second: a shut-off valve in an open basement is quick, while a leak inside a finished wall or under a slab means opening things up. Parts and fixtures are third: a standard toilet and a comfort-height model with a premium finish are priced very differently. Finally, timing matters. Emergency calls outside regular business hours may carry additional charges, which we explain before a technician is dispatched.
Older Durham Region homes add one more factor. Galvanized supply lines, outdated drain systems and inadequate venting often have to be brought up to current Ontario Building Code standards during a repair, which can add to the scope.

How to avoid overpaying
Get a written estimate before work begins and make sure it lists what is included: labour, parts, permits and disposal. Ask whether the price is for the whole job or an hourly rate with an open end. Ask about the warranty on workmanship. And confirm that the company is licensed and insured. Hayes Plumbing is WSIB certified, BBB accredited and a member of the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, and every job comes with a written quote before we start.
If you are comparing bathroom budgets specifically, the Durham Region bathroom renovation cost guide breaks the ranges down by room size and scope.
